Since I was a young child, I've always had an interest in health and fitness. The human body has always fascinated me, the many different body shapes, sizes and the wondrous things it's capable of doing. I am still just as amazed and fascinated today as I was at 6 years old.
My journey with health and fitness started over thirty-five years ago in Texas with the near fatal death of my infant daughter. She was misdiagnosed and prescribed the wrong medication. I won't go into any details but it was a take your breath away time and experience. Although something bad happened--something good happen also, my daughter did recover and today she's healthy and a wonderful and loving mother. That experience put me on a never-ending journey with health. I started researching, reading and learning everything I could about health, natural nutrition and fitness, applying what I learned to my life and my family not realizing at that time I was creating a new lifestyle. I mailed ordered just about every exercise apparatus, devices and nutritional supplements I saw in newspapers, mail order catalogs and magazines that claim to help you achieve and maintain a healthy and fit body. I enjoyed exercising using the many devices I had purchased and accumulated. In the mid seventies after the birth of my second daughter I became interested in weight training and started researching, reading, learning and experimenting with weight bearing exercises. My body start to feel strong and lean--I felt fit and I knew from that point on that weight training was what I was searching for in all those exercise apparatus and devices I was buying. What I've learned and know from my personal and professional experience is that weight training should and need to be added to every person exercise program especially women, who may be under the misconception that weight training will make them bulky. I have learned in the thirty plus years of weight training that it's the glue that keeps it all together; muscle is active and fat is inactive. The feeling of a strong body is a great feeling and a natural esteem booster and builder and no woman regardless of age and fitness level should shy away from it but run as fast as she can to it.
I moved to southern California and continued educating myself about health, fitness and nutrition and was introduced to the concept of fasting in 1979 and it quickly became part of my life. I moved to the Bay Area a few years later and started studying and learning about herbs and their medicinal functions, proprieties and benefits while farther educating myself in the importance of eating healthy and eating live foods. As I continued my journey over the years in fitness and nutrition, people increasingly sought out my advice. I was delighted to share my experience and knowledge, offering guidance to friends, family and acquaintances, while always encouraging them to learn for themselves and to listen to their body, by doing so they will become active rather than passive when it come to nutrition and health for themselves and their families.
After twenty years of conscious and intentional fasting, I learned and gained wisdom and knowledge about how, why and when to fast and the many health benefits that fasting had to offer. In 1998, I developed a unique lifestyle change program that incorporated fasting. Since then, it has now evolved into Gloria Kamil's Seasonal Natural Nutrition Journeys.
In 1999, I decided to close my fashion designing business to focus totally on fitness and natural nutrition, my other love is designing intimate lounge wear for men and women. (Gloria Kamil Personal Clothing). Upon making the decision to focus upon fitness and natural nutrition totally, I converted my detach garage into a beautiful private fitness studio for women creating an environment of peace and calmness. My studio is a place where woman can feel free to be herself and not be intimidated or insecure about her body or her fitness challenges.
In March of 2000, I became certified by the American Council On Exercise. I am not your typical health club trainer. I am a Holistic Fitness Teacher and Trainer (Testimonials). In my practice I address the whole person; physical, mental/emotional and spiritual. I not only teach and train from the scientific stand point of fitness but from experience, maturity, empathy and knowledge that we all have the same body parts and functions but we all have had different experiences that make us who we are. Real fitness and health is a life long journey that requires patience and understanding of who you are and spending time with yourself and your body not making excuses for your shortcoming but learning and growing from them. If you are consistent and learn to embrace exercising rather than fighting and dreading it, you will build a relationship with exercise that will grow into a marriage, a union that is important and necessary in your life and lifestyle rather than an event. This only happen when you are willing and receptive in changing your attitude and thinking toward exercise and eating healthy. During the process of growing and building your relationship with whole health (exercise and quality nutrition) you will have growing pains and that's okay--changing your life and old habits require time, patience and in most cases discomfort that will sting you into a new awareness of what it will take physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually to reach our whole health destination and maintaining that status through out and this can be done. Forget about the quick-fixes and special events to get fit and healthy they are always temporary only to bring disappointment later. Your body is a gift from God, love your body and your body will love you back with optimal health. Good health begin in the Spirit, Mind and then the Body.
